Dennis Halmi, MD

Dr. Halmi is a graduate of the Semmelweiss Medical University in Budapest, Hungary and completed his training in General Surgery at the Brooklyn-Downstate Medical Center in New York. He has more than 20 years of experience with the surgical treatment of morbid obesity, has performed over 10,000 weight loss operations and gained special expertise in complex minimally invasive revisional weight loss surgery. He has contributed several research papers in this area and had numerous presentations at national and international professional conferences.

In 2006 he was one of the first surgeons in Virginia to earn the designation of Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity. He is also certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine in the medical treatment of obesity and associated metabolic problems. Dr. Halmi works with a multidisciplinary team of professionals devoted to the care and treatment of the severely obese.

Dr. Masoud Rezvani earned his medical degree at the Islamic Azad University in Tehran, Iran. He has completed a residency training program in General Surgery at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania. Following his residency Dr. Rezvani practiced as a general surgeon attending for few years and then he became interested in weight loss and metabolic surgery. He has completed a specialized fellowship in minimally invasive weight loss surgery at Abington Memorial Hospital, the busiest center of weight loss surgery in Philadelphia area,  where he has gained expertise and experience in advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery, robotic surgery and surgical endoscopy. His training also includes robotic surgery utilizing the DaVinci System to perform weight loss surgery.

Dr. Rezvani has received numerous awards for his work during his career as a surgeon and has several scientific articles published in the most respected professional publications including the official journal of The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (SOARD) which is the most scientific and intellectual journal for obesity surgery topic.

 

Dr. Rezvani is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

 

Dr. Rezvani has performed more than 5,000 laparoscopic weight-loss operations in the last few years.  Patients entrust their care to him more often than any other provider in Northern Virginia; he is the highest volume bariatric surgeon in the region.

 

Dr. Rezvani performs different kinds of obesity surgery such as Gastric Band placement, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD-DS), Endoscopic Intragastric Balloon placement, all kind of Revision surgery and Endoscopic Revision procedures.

 

In addition, Dr. Rezvani performs all general surgery procedure such as gallbladder, appendix, stomach surgery, hernias, colon surgery, small intestine and soft tissue procedures with both minimally invasive method and robotic method.

 

Dr. Rezvani strongly believes that bariatric surgery is among the more demanding surgical disciplines, technically and intellectually. He has devoted 100% of his professional effort to obesity surgery. He is licensed to practice medicine in states of Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Jan Ford received her Masters in Counseling from Western Kentucky University. She is a VA Certified Addictions Counselor and a Certified Wellness Coach.
 

Jan has worked in the mental health field for over 25 years, specializing in addictive disorders, domestic violence, and bariatric behavioral counseling. Her background in treating addictive behaviors and wellness coaching provides a unique combination approach to addressing the need for the behavior changes required in the recovery process from bariatric surgery. She has work primarily as a Behavioral
Specialist with Bariatric Patients for the past 8 years.

 

Jan developed the B. Balanced program and curriculum as an on-going group process that helps individuals navigate through their aftercare challenges. She’s also a certified by Bariatric Support Centers International as a facilitator for the Back on Track program.

Shantelle has 7 years of education in the Nutrition and Health Science field.  She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health Science from Benedict College – where she gained the passion for Food Safety, Food Sanitation, and Food Inspection.  Shantelle holds a Master’s Degree in Nutritional Science from South Carolina University.  She then obtained a Master’s of Business Administration Degree from Colorado Technical University.  She completed her Dietetic Internship at North Carolina Central University – Durham, North Carolina. 

 

Shantelle has over 20 years experience in the dietetic field.  She has extensive Nutrition Counseling working with clients with needs ranging from Nutrition Therapy for various disease states (Diabetes, HTN, Celiac Disease, Kidney Disease), emotional eating, and developmental disabilities.

 

Shantelle realized those who have struggled and become disappointed when they do not see results from hard efforts to achieve their overall nutrition goals.  That is why she became passionate through her years of experience to help others find the uniqueness about themselves.
